Hyderabad based Learnpedia secures angel investment from Ixora Ventures; Bracing up for 'test-prep' fight
Learnpedia's flagship product, JEE Studymate was launched last year and has around 3.5 thousand students signed up that'll be using the product. The target is to have 10,000 students in 2013. There are multiple ways in which Learnpedia sells, employing both B2C and B2B2C models. “With the creation of a common national test for admission into engineering colleges across the country, it is estimated that over 2.8million students will be needing these services," says Krishna. The funding will be used to improve content and add additional products to the portfolio.
Ixora Ventures was started in March 2012 by Nikhil Mulchandani. They fund anywhere between $25k- $500k and look at all sectors with a deeper focus in healthcare, education and technology. “Quality of content, strength in distribution, aggressive expansion plans and capabilities of the management team is what has led us to fund in the company," says Nikhil, Partner at Ixora Ventures.
Learnpedia is based out of Hyderabad but has offices in Delhi and the US as well. From 4 people in June 2012, the company has grown to 37 people now and plans to market aggressively now. Not competing directly with the Fitjees and Career Points of the world, LearnPedia is in an interesting space with things about to undergo a massive change with the common test coming in from this year. The pricing is a bit steep but the fact that they've been already able to push the product to 3,500 students is impressive.
