A site that urges you to take a chill pill: WhySoSerious
Kya aap baade niraash hai? Kya aapke jiwan mein kuch theek nahi hai? Kya aapki billi bhi aapse door bhagti hai? Then check out WhySoSerious.co.in, a site that urges you to not be serious and look at the quirky and not so serious stuff they sell, like Darth Vader wallet, to Batman Money clip to Alcohol by volume glass. We cant promise the site will set everything straight in your life, but atleast the products they have on display may perk up your mood.
WhySoSerious was founded by Khushboo Bisht, earlier this year in March. She says the potential of things they are trying to sell is big, but shies away from putting a number to it. When the site launched they were in the geek/fun zone but now Khushboo says, they are accepted by anyone who loves a little fun. Most of the products on site has been developed by independent product designers and has more designer stuff than branded. They also have products from known names like FRED’S and Sebastain on the site.
Sourcing these unique/quirky products, Khushboo agrees is tough, but that is the part she also enjoys the most. “We have a few suppliers but then we don’t really buy from them always, we need varied stuff all the time, hence we just can’t afford to stick to a few suppliers. We find great people with great products and we buy from them. Quality is very important to us, hence what we sell is totally safe,” explains the entrepreneur. While she does not disclose how many products they have sold todate, Khushboo claims they have taken orders for products that were not on site, that people found somewhere else and wanted WhySoSerious to get it for them, and they actually obliged!
Their best selling product has been the tetris lamp, hungover art series, the Big bang theory merchandise and all the Batman related stuff, including the Batman mini signal seals. Khushboo says the site mostly has women buying for their men. And most of the orders they have catered to so far, has been for Indian customers. The startup is also working with a few product designers to make exclusive products for them. But these are early days and they want to know their customers better before they get into more product development, says the founder.
WhySoSerious has mostly creative and software people in the team. The site relies on online advertising , word of mouth and PR for publicity. “We don’t really advertise much. We think if the products are good the people will come to us. So far it has worked for us, we are very thankful to our customers for that,” says Khusbhoo proudly.
Talking about her immediate goals, Khusbhoo says she wants to get more crazier stuff on the site. “In our line of business, I am as good as my product. Hence I intend to add 3-4 new designers every week. I want the site to become even more creative, we are working on that,” she says. In the long run, she doesn’t want to be limited to products -- exhibitions, collaborations with product designers, a WhySoSerious.co.in line of products that is known for quality and out of the box thinking is also on her mind.
However to do all of this the biggest trouble that the startup faces is the courier service, “it might sound too simple and stupid but trust me I really don’t agree with the way the courier works mostly. I think that is the only reason that slows us down,” emphasizes Khusbhoo.
A boot-strapped venture, most investment for the business came from Khusbhoo’s saving, but she says she “would love to get funded”, to grow the business bigger and better.
