Pune-based Gawbl - a mobile only platform that helps users to quickly decide where to eat based on their mood has been acquired by Times Internet owned TimesCity. The details of the deal have not been disclosed. Following the acquisition, Gawbl will merge with TimesCity; and Chirag Kirpalani, including other three members of the team, will be shifting to TIL’s Noida office.
Speaking to YourStory, Kirpalani said “Post acquisition, I would be heading mobile initiative for TimesCity. Gawbl team will help Times City to optimize mobile experience and launch it in other cities”. Gawbl’s mood-based search engine for food was operational in Pune which tagged eateries in Pune across 5 genres – quick bite, hog, experiment, fine dine and chill (affordable and refreshing joints).
“With the addition of the Gawbl team, we will deliver a truly amazing mobile first user experience to the TimesCity community”, said Miten Sampat, Business Head of TimesCity. TimesCity is a location based web service which lists movies, restaurants, pubs and real time events. Besides web based services, it also offers mobile (Android, iOS, BlackBerry) at present in 11 cities including Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.
Launched in April this year, Gawbl helps users to decide where to eat based on their mood, over mobile phones.
