Exam18 is an e-commerce portal which collaborates with teachers to bring the best exam preparation resources to students. It was initially started as the ExamGuessPapers.com which sold school prelim papers. It tied up with teachers of ICSE and created ICSE guess papers books and e-books on ExamGuessPapers.com.

Exam18, based out of Jaipur, was started in December 2012. It is the brainchild of Chirag Agarwal who is a final year engineering student of Global Institute of Technology, Jaipur.

Beginning

When Chirag was in school he had designed over five websites for different companies. He confesses he did not fare well in academics and would barely manage to pass his exams. However, when he reached class X, he kept his focus and organized all the resources that he could from his teachers. He passed with a distinction to his surprise.

After he joined college, he continued working on websites for an international venture HebrewGarden.com which gave him a steady income. It was during a conversation with one of his teachers that he realized it was difficult for students to have access to question papers. This looked like an interesting opportunity to share study material online. This would also give an incentive to teachers to sell their study material. After a quick research, he decided to start his venture by first uploading some school prelim papers that he had collected for his own class X exams.

Scaling up

With constant motivation from his parents and his strong will to start his own venture, he was able to dedicate time despite a busy college routine. “I never waited for my studies to finish before I could start something. ExamGuessPapers had huge number of registered users in a span of two years. We had over four lakh registered members before we redirected the website completely to Exam18.com last month,” he says.

Exam18 started accepting orders in August 2013 and in a span of four months completed 4000 orders. They operate from two offices, one from Jaipur and another from Mumbai.

Road ahead

According to Chirag, the success of e-commerce sites like Flipkart, Infibeam, IndiaTimesShopping, made his job relatively easy considering people are buying educational resource material online.

Exam18 is targeting students who wish to study their syllabus from richer sources rather than traditional text books and guides. They also have an Author's Program where they collaborate with teachers for content and in turn help them monetize their efforts.
