Israeli grandmom launches crowdfunding campaign to build tracker that merges tech and fashion
Crowdfunding hardware to simplify daily chores is the new ‘cool’ among the youth globally. But have you heard about the grandmother who launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to build add-on hardware?
Tired of wasting time and effort looking for her lost glasses, this enterprising grandmom from Israel developed a product called, Look, which can track lost glasses among other things.
Says grandma Dafna Ariely, “The idea for Look came when I couldn’t find my reading glasses. I found them the next day between the couch cushions. After the frustrating search, I thought that if I had something to help me find my glasses I could have avoided the stress and saved time. When I didn’t find a product like this in the market, I decided to do it myself.”
Look is a small, discreet Bluetooth enabled tracking device that can be clipped to your glasses with ease. The device can be attached to any arm of the glasses from inside or outside giving enough freedom to the end user. Oh! wait, this tracker isn’t just for glasses, this can also be used to keep a track of other objects.
There are already enough trackers (for example, Tile) in the market, but for things like keys and luggage where appearance of the tracker isn’t that important. But as its name suggests, Look looks great and has also become a status symbol.
Talking to different entrepreneurs and innovators in Israel over the last week, I have been inspired by their passion and zeal to innovate. It’s heartening to see their hunger to bring about a change. Dafna exemplifies the adage, ‘age no bar’. Israel is truly a ‘startup nation’.
Dafna shared with me the inspiration that fueled her to pursue this project.
It’s in our DNA, this chutzpah to build. If we don't find an answer to a mystery, we don't sit idle. We challenge ourselves to find the solution. With so many youngsters starting up in this nation, I felt motivated to build this solution.
Look embodies the trend of merging technology and fashion, one of the fastest emerging sectors to bet on. The device has an attractive price of $28. It comes in four different designs giving options for different colours too.
The device is ultra light in weight making it comfortable for the user. Simply attach the device to any set of frames and then download the app on your iPhone or Android device. Using the app, you can easily track your glasses and find them in seconds.
Devices like Look are at the forefront of a trend that will eventually see all objects becoming smart devices.
