Celebrating the spirit of women through storytelling for women, by women, on women
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
(from Still I rise by Maya Angelou)
Yes, still we rise. We rise to change the world around us.
At HerStory we celebrate women and their achievements all year round. Be it corporate leaders, women in tech or in academics, arts or those in the world of fitness and sports. Our stories are about women who have not given in to fear, taken on challenges head on and have refused to give up in the face of failure; they have continued to only rise, grow and thrive. From entrepreneurs to corporate leaders to reckon with, each journey has been special, each story an inspiration in itself.
As the International Women’s day approaches, we take this opportunity to salute the spirit of womanhood in our own style.
