The online store sells equipment and encourages informative discussions based on topics related to gardening and farming, he said. Ugaoo.com will promote urban farming by providing sound and credible knowledge to those who want to teach and learn, he said.

With initial focus on Mumbai and Pune, Ugaoo.com has tied up with over 50 manufacturers and has distribution plans all across India. With a strong delivery network all across India and convenient payment options, Ugaoo plans to reach out to the remotest corners of the nation so that no one is deprived of going green, he said.

"The Food Agriculture Organisation (FOA) estimates that India is home to 11 per cent arable land of the world. Currently, the gardening market in India is approximately Rs 5,000 crore, which is much lower when compared to other economies like China. This presents a huge opportunity," he said. "Ugaoo.com aims to connect all individuals residing in urban and rural areas to come together and start growing for a healthier future and a greater cause towards the nation," Bhalinge said.

The portal will appeal to professional gardeners, horticulturists, architects, landscape architects, interior decorators, urban farmers, hobby gardeners, plant lovers and the rural large scale farmers of India, he said. Ugaoo.com has been selected among the world's top 40 most promising start-ups by WebSummit tech conference, he said.
