This women-only liquor store in Delhi provides women a hassle-free alcohol-buying experience

Women in Delhi know how difficult it is to buy liquor if they don’t have a man accompanying them. Any place where liquor is sold is therefore virtually off limits for women. But at the Star City Mall in the suburb of Mayur Vihar, things are a bit different. The wine and beer shop at the mall is run by women and open exclusively for women customers. As a result, women in Delhi fancying a tipple can buy what they need without the fear of being at the receiving end of awkward glances or taunts.

“Girls can be intimidated at most liquor stores because guys try to letch or just look at you in a weird way. I do prefer going to (the ladies-only store) because it’s not crowded at all and you can look around,” said a frequent visitor to The Indian Express.

Sales here have so far been mediocre, with just 10-15 transactions a day. But store owner Rohit Arora believes it is just a matter of four-six months before things pick up. Rohit said, “More and more people are getting to know about it and word is spreading about the presence of such a shop.”
