Uttarsanda is a small village situated in the Kheda district of Gujarat. Located about 76 km from the state capital of Gandhinagar, the village is home to a little over 10,000 people.

Uttarsanda has exceptionally high standards of education and quality of life. According to 2011 Census data, the literacy rate here is 90 percent, compared to the 78 percent rate of literacy in Gujarat and the national average of 74 percent.

However, what Uttarsanda is most known for is its flourishing snacks business. Run almost entirely by women, Uttarsanda is home to 35 small industries, where local snacks such as papad, mathiya, and cholafali are made. Their business particularly flourishes during the Diwali season, when they sell snacks worth Rs 70 crore every year.

According to Aaj Tak, the women of Uttarsanda village have been making snacks for over 30 years now. During the month of Diwali alone, they dispatch nearly 700 tonnes of snacks, over half of which is exported to other countries.
