Artificial Intelligence is the user interface of data science: Bhaskar Ghosh, Accenture
The whole technology landscape is changing and is ushering in new ways to put it to use. The way things have been run in the past 20 years no longer holds water and we need to change to adapt and be relevant.
At the Bengaluru ITE.BIZ 2016, Bhaskar Ghosh, Group Chief Executive, Accenture Technology Services, shed light on what the next wave in the IT sector would be.
“We went through several waves - IT services, e-commerce, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing. New tech is maturing faster and the time to learn and execute in the market is short. We need to learn to master the speed. Every business is a software business. Even manufacturing is driven by software,” he explained.
Tech for everyone
The mobile phone is a simple means to take tech to the people. By 2020 there will be over a billion more phones. The government today is realising this thriving space and is taking mobility deeper.
Connect everything
We have hyper-connected users thanks to social media and disrupted marketplace, and sectors and experiences including transport, talent, shopping and hospitality are being disrupted by tech and mobility.
Intelligence everywhere
Everything, from homes, machines, cars, watches to cities, is connected smartly and intelligently. Even agriculture has not been deprived of tech intervention, with drone tech being used quite successfully in the farming sector.
By 2020, there will be 21 billion connected devices and IDC predicts $1.5 trillion in spends in AI and Internet of Things (IoT). Patents will touch a growth of 5x by then.
This defines the transforming face of IT in India, different in many ways from what took place 20 years ago. It goes beyond just software and brings business models, hardware and software together.
AI today is the user interface of data science today. With billions of devices we collect and store data, and this is what makes AI successful.
Tech plays a strong role in scaling social impact in India. As connectivity increases it is essential to make sure you create a social impact with the same.
Explaining how AI will push the next stage of IT growth, Bhaskar said,
Tech is about new business processes, models and how it changes human and machine interaction.
