[PhotoSparks] Design and dazzle in Moscow: YourStory wishes its readers a Merry Christmas weekend
PhotoSparks is a weekly feature from YourStory, with photographs that celebrate the spirit of creativity and innovation. In this photo essay, we feature the dazzling installations and Christmas decorations from Moscow.
In the earlier 115 posts, we brought you a wide range of creative photographs from an art fair, world music festival, painting fair, telecom expo, art museum, mobile showcase, math museum, social hackathon, bookstore, co-working space, sensorium, international design week, flower show, outdoor ads, startup roadshow, computer museum, startup T-shirts, business cards, art therapy, startup festival, Diwali rangoli, Vesak, jazz festival, modern art gallery, ecopreneurs, painter-poets, health activists, eNGOs and digital innovators.
Let’s talk about Russia and politics some other time, and focus this time on the pure magic of its Christmas decorations! My travels this month took me to Moscow for the 7th annual Knowledge Management Russia conference, while also leaving enough time to sample the sights and sounds of this picturesque historic city. The minus-20 degree temperature added another special effect to the visit - blended with snow storms, the year’s longest nights, and the freezing of the Moscow river.
Festive seasons seem to bring out the best in artistic and community creativity (see also my earlier photo essays on Diwali rangoli, Ganesha idols, Onam pookalam, Vesak in Sri Lanka and Lantern Festival in Singapore). The churches of Moscow are a delight to behold, as featured in this photo showcase - especially the Cathedral of Basil, Cathedral of Christ, and Trinity Church. The Red Square, Kremlin and city squares are also lit up with decorations, along with special Christmas installations like the tunnel to Pushkinskaya Square.
YourStory wishes all its readers and supporters a Merry Christmas weekend ahead, and all the best for 2017!
