Why the future belongs to office-less offices

Why the future belongs to office-less offices

Wednesday April 12, 2017 , 3 min Read

We've heard the old proverb ‘Time is money’ over the years from several successful businessmen and entrepreneurs. Yet, the corporate world doesn't seem to be doing anything to stem lost opportunities. Even today, people all over the world travel long distances to get to their office every day and spend a large amount of time commuting to and fro. This not only results in lost productivity, but also a lack of enthusiasm. We live in the age where the internet has enabled us to reach everything at the tap of our fingers. If emails and smart-phones are used resourcefully, office-less offices can become the game-changer. Here's why more companies need to embrace the concept of remote working:

Office-less offices gives women a level-playing field

Dues to family commitments, a lot of women stop working as they can't dedicate entire days to working out of an office. This is sad news because year after year we read about women acing different academic fields. When so much knowledge goes untapped just owing to long working hours, it slows the economy down eventually. Not being able to find a holistic solution to this problem is a pointer of society's inability to develop an inclusive economy. Office-less offices will give both genders an equal chance at opportunities to grow in their respective careers and are therefore the need of the hour.

Office-less offices encourages the hiring of talent from the most remote location

Today, educational institutions even in the smallest of villages are stressing on bringing uniformity in syllabi. With internet now available even in the most remote areas, talent acquisition should no longer be dependent on a candidate's location. Instead of forcing job-seekers to leave their towns and migrate to cities in the search of better job opportunities, offices should encourage remote working to not only hire the best talent from isolated locations, but to also contribute to that region's economy.

Office-less offices enable the saving of capital

The overheads of buying a property for an office space become non-existent when businesses take the initiative to set up a virtual office. Entrepreneurs can also do away with investing a significant amount of their time and money in sorting out lease procedures and basic utilities and hardware. The capital that entrepreneurs save on by investing in a physical structure can instead be directed to hiring the best talent there is. Office-less offices can work wonders for startups as they don't need to block a significant amount of their funds behind a tangible arrangement.

Office-less offices lead to a happy workforce

Talk to any employee who spends two hours commuting from home to office and back and he will tell you that he would give an arm and a leg to be able to work remotely. This is because a lot of unnecessary time is spent travelling to and fro, and this can sap a person's energy. Instead, when an employee is allowed to maintain a healthy work-life balance, his productivity levels are bound to increase. It is for this reason that office-less offices need to become the norm of the corporate world in the near future.

Remote working can do wonders for a company, and therefore more offices need to adopt the work-from-home policy. The future belongs to office-less offices, and the faster entrepreneurs embrace this concept, the better it will be for our overall economy.
