This constable ran 1 km with a 10-kg explosive to save 400 students
A 12-second video of a constable running in Chitora village, Madhya Pradesh is trending on social media. Several comments and shares are celebrating this dabang cop, Abhishek Patel, whose presence of mind has saved the lives of over 400 children. If you felt this was a scene from a Bollywood flick, wait till you hear the story of this national hero.
An anonymous call to the police station in Chitora said there was a bomb planted in the nearby school. The news caused chaos in the school, but this constable ran with the bomb and disposed of it far away from human habitation.
Speaking to the The Times of India, Abhishek said,
Had the bomb exploded it would have caused damage in a 500-metre area. I was afraid that the bomb may explode so I took it away from the populated area.
Talking to DNA over the phone, Satyendra Shukla, SP Sagar district, said,
Head Constable Abhishek Patel was on police control van duty when he got a call about a bomb in the backyard of a school in Chitora. He immediately rushed to the spot. He picked up the bomb and ran with it as fast as he could. He disposed it at a place far away from the village.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for Abhishek.
However, although Abhishek's brave act has been applauded by many, his seniors are not very happy about it. The superintendent of police said,
He should have first informed the bomb disposal squad and followed the proper drill. There was a lot of risk involved in taking the bomb away with bare hands.
