As per Partha Pratim Chakrabarti, Director, IIT Kharagpur, the project will enable the students to set up their offices at a low cost. He spoke about this at the institute's 63rd convocation on Saturday. He further said,

We are coming up with a scheme where students can convert their hostel rooms into entrepreneurship offices instead of taking rooms in Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (STEP).

STEP has been established to encourage entrepreneurship at the institute.

The convocation, a two-day affair, began on August 5, 2017. Nearly 2,500 students were awarded the degree in this year’s convocation at IIT-K.

According to NDTV, the chief guest at the convocation was Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Dinesh K Sarraf. Member of IIT-K's board of governors and Infosys Foundation Chairperson Dr Sudha N Murthy presided over the function.

Chakrabarti said that the institute plans to have at least 10 percent of faculty from foreign universities in five years' time to raise its global standing.

The director also spoke of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the institute being restructured in the near future. According to the Hindustan Times, he said,

We are going to completely restructure the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to offer very specified courses having the core competence but retaining large flexibility.
