3 job satisfaction hacks to make your daily work more enjoyable

3 job satisfaction hacks to make your daily work more enjoyable

Thursday October 05, 2017 , 3 min Read

The truth is that most people don't love their jobs. After all, it is hard to enjoy something you don't always like. However, since most of us spend a huge chunk of our waking hours in the office, it is only right that we try to make our life easier.

Start by identifying the reason behind your dissatisfaction. Do you not feel adequately challenged? Are you tired of staring at your computer screen eight-hours-a-day, five-days-a-week? Once you've zeroed down on the thing that's making you miserable, see if you can change it. Yes, it will take some behaviour adjustment on your part, but if you're determined to make your work life bearable, change is a small price to pay.

However, if change is not an option, here are three things you can do to make your job more enjoyable:

Don't hang around with people who sulk

At every organization there are some people who take a great deal of pleasure in trashing everything about their workplace – right from the bosses to the clerks. Don't partake in their negativity. The cynics will make you believe that the company is out to get you and that the work is ridiculous and meaningless. Don't buy into their theories. If you constantly surround yourself with negativity, it will be hard for you to see the positive aspects of your workplace. Instead, spend time with colleagues who have a more balanced view. Their practical talk will help change your emotional response towards your job.

Take on duties that you like doing

Think about whether there are some duties associated with your job profile that you like doing more than others. For example, if you're a social media manager, do you like creating strategies more than you like interacting with the clients? See if you can talk to your employer and convince him/her to give you more work that is related to strategizing and less work which requires you to talk to clients. When you involve yourself with work that makes you happy, your job automatically becomes more enjoyable.

Help your colleagues whenever you can

The easiest way to create a happier work environment is to forge a bond of friendship and mutual respect with your coworkers. One way to do this is to offer help whenever you have the time. You will enjoy your work more if you contribute value to the lives of others. Whether you're a junior or a CEO, this applies to every level of the hierarchy. Helping others, even in a small way, will bring you inner satisfaction like little else. Also, when you help others in their time of need, they will help you too if you're stuck somewhere or have a deadline to meet. Therefore, at the end of the day, it is a win-win situation.

We spend an estimated one-third of our entire life at the workplace. Therefore, it is only right that we do everything in our power to make our work lives more enjoyable and satisfying.
