Registering property in Karnataka will now take only 12 minutes: here's how
Sometimes, red-tapism, middlemen, and corruption cause the process of registration to take even more time than it does to find property in the first place. It is to address this very issue that the Karnataka government has launched an online portal. In a process as simple as applying for a passport, one can now register property in only 12 minutes.
The service, launched by the Department of Stamps and Registration, will also make sure that one gets the certified copy of the registration on the same day. To avail the service, all one has to do is log in to the Karnataka Valuation and e-Registration (Kaveri) portal and fill in the required information. Talking to The New Indian Express about the process, Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamps, Dr KV Thrilok Chandra, said,
"If documents are correct, they will be approved within 12 minutes. Manually, it would take at least 45 minutes. With this system, we are not just saving people’s time but also reducing the burden on our staff.”
Soon, the department plans on starting mobile services where the user will receive messages every step of the way. With 4,500 daily registrations across Karnataka, this initiative will save a lot of time not just for users but also for employees of the department. According to The Times of India, Thrilok said,
"At present, residents have to visit the office of the jurisdictional sub-registrar and wait for their turn. Under the new system, people will be able to pay registration fee online and get appointments with senior officials of the sub-registrar's office for verification of documents within three days of registration from the day of filing the application online.''
