Youngsters in Lucknow raise money through crowdfunding to help poor children go to school during winter

Youngsters in Lucknow raise money through crowdfunding to help poor children go to school during winter

Monday January 29, 2018 , 2 min Read

While some complain about the chilly winters despite having the luxury to curl up in a blanket, children in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushmaura village cannot attend school till winter is over due to lack of warm clothes. Though these children understand that education is important to ensure a better future for themselves, they are restricted by their circumstances.

A few youngsters from Lucknow have begun to contribute to the society by going to neighbouring villages, and offering help to those in need.

Nikita Dwivedi and Agrima Kher from Lucknow have joined hands with three other friends to help out the underprivileged children in villages. Under the leadership of these two girls, the team is trying to gather essential commodities that will ensure their uninterrupted education and are sending them to the children in villages.

While speaking with YourStory, Agrima said,

We wrote a Facebook post to make people aware of this initiative, and appealed for their help. We did this with the thought that even if 10 people agree to send Rs 100 each, we will be able to collect Rs 10,000.

The team received great support from people, and collected nearly Rs 35,000. They received donation from the range of Rs 20 to Rs 1,000.

Agrima said,

We are thankful to everyone for their support, and have immersed ourselves into collecting as many essential commodities as possible for the children. Everyone showed whole-hearted support, and donated money as well as blankets for these children.

The team has bought everything from socks, to biscuit packets, to shoes, to pencil boxes. Clothes for the children were washed, ironed and properly packed in poly-covers. The idea was to ensure that the things given to them come across as gifts and not charity.

These children understand the value of education in building a bright future, and thus want to study to improve their financial situation and help their parents. The youngsters are doing commendable work to ensure these children are able to achieve their dream.
