Facebook's Workplace gets a new look: from notification to Groups, here's all you need to know
Workplace will soon be able to leverage the machine learning elements of “work graph” to offer tailor-made suggestions on people and groups that you most interact with.
When it comes to steering clear of the competition, innovation and redesign seem to be the two key factors. And internet giant Facebook is well aware of this. At the recent F8 conference for developers, Facebook announced a slew of design-related changes for its family of apps – including Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp – and some of these infrastructural improvements are coming to its enterprise edition, Workplace, as well.

Aimed at getting work done efficiently and quickly, the new Workplace experience will allow users the same familiarity of Facebook while introducing functionalities like a new notification view and prominence on features like ‘Groups’ and ‘Chats’.
In addition to this streamlining of the existing functionalities, Workplace will also be leveraging the machine learning elements of the “work graph” to offer tailored suggestion on people and groups.
“You can find what you need in the Home tab and if you're working on a Teams & Project group, you can switch between the “Posts” and the “Chat” tabs easily to make sure everyone's on the same page. You can also use the redesigned files tab to organize your work on Workplace,” Karandeep Anand, Head of Workplace, shared in the blog post.
“And that means a reduction in the number of clicks you'll need to find someone, to start a chat, or to connect your groups and chats.”
In times when Workplace competitors like Slack and Microsoft are continuously gearing up the offering, the design revamp comes as a natural progression. Interestingly, the UI updates are just one part of the revamp, Facebook is prepping for a global exchange on Workplace by making it available in 46 languages and introducing auto-translation options.
“We believe this change will be extremely positive for people getting work done on Workplace,” the company said in a statement.
“We will begin to give access to this new experience today and make it available to everyone over the coming weeks. You will be prompted to try out the new design, but will still be able to switch between the Classic view of Workplace if you prefer for the next few months.”
