Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) on Monday said its monthly orders reached a new record with 12 million transactions in July. The daily orders reached 430,000, led by the mobility sector.

The mobility domain was responsible for 4.4 million orders in the month. In the non-mobility sector, food and beverage accounted for 1.7 million orders, while the grocery sector contributed  1.4 million transactions.

The fashion segment was responsible for 0.6 million orders in July while the remaining 4 million orders were distributed among on-network logistics, beauty and personal care, home and kitchen, and retail vouchers.

ONDC, which was launched in December 2021, is a government initiative that enables smaller businesses to harness the power of ecommerce against it being exclusively used by industry giants. Backed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the open ecommerce network claimed to have captured 18% market share in Bengaluru and 3% nationally.

The open network also launched the auto components and accessories category in July which features sellers including Ess Aay Automotive (Hero Genuine) It currently operates across 10 domains with 108 active network participants including Meesho, Tata Consumer, Hindustan Unilever, and Namma Yatri.

ONDC CEO Thampy Koshy had earlier noted a decreasing share in mobility as beauty, fashion and home segments pick up trade on the open network. He further added that the network will touch 40-50 million monthly transactions by the end of this year. The network gathered 1,000 transactions in January 2023 while in May this year the number had reached 8.5 million.
