The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a draft bill to ensure stricter punishments for paper leaks, including a fine of up to Rs 10 crore, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, official sources said.
Under the current law, individuals can get three to five years’ imprisonment while those involved in organised paper leaks can get five to 10 years’ imprisonment and a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has teamed up with HCL Technologies and Sarvam AI for setting up an AI data centre and a global delivery centre in Khurda district. The plan includes investment of more than Rs 15,000 crore over the next five years.
Under the two agreements, HCL Technologies, with support from Sarvam AI, will establish its first AI data centre in Odisha, while HCL will independently set up a global delivery centre.
In other news, WhatsApp Pay is now ahead of CRED in monthly Unified Payments Interface transaction volumes for the first time, highlighting the competition in India’s digital payments market. While the top three players–PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm–still dominate the market, it signals that WhatsApp’s payments ambitions are beginning to gain traction after years of regulatory constraints and slow adoption.

First big win for OpenAI
In a first ruling of its kind, the Delhi High Court has handed OpenAI a significant interim victory in a major copyright lawsuit against an AI company. The court declined to restrain ChatGPT from using content published by Asian News International (ANI).
The ruling is important because it offers the court’s first detailed view on whether using copyrighted material to train AI models may be permissible under Indian copyright law. The case isn’t over yet.

A tail of promise
The documentary– Oslo - A Tail of Promise–offers an intimate glimpse into conservation biologist Pooja Bhale's life with rescued animals and the bond she shared with her Siberian husky, Oslo.
Pooja is known for her initiative “The Farm”, two-and-a-half acres of family land on the outskirts of Pune she had converted into a biodiversity hub, through the Protecterra Foundation, which she had founded in 2011. Oslo was one of the many dogs at the farm along with cats and elephants.

- Oslo came to Pooja and her partner Varun when he was five-and-a-half months old. Born in a kennel in Bengaluru, he had passed through many homes before they adopted him.
- One of the reasons why the film tugs at the heartstrings is how natural everything feels. There are no staged moments or dramatic recreations, just glimpses of everyday life on the farm.
- Oslo also influenced the way Protecterra Foundation has evolved. Oslo took Pooja from the city and brought her to The Farm.
