Headquartered in Twyford, Berkshire, perPETual has developed and successfully commercialised an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective process to reverse engineer consumer waste PET bottles into high quality sustainable (poly)ester. This sustainable ester can directly replace conventional esters made from PTA and MEG, both high carbon footprint petrochemicals. The key aspect of their process is that they can produce a product that is of an equal quality to that of traditional virgin materials, without the inclusion of any environmentally harmful chemicals or additives. They currently convert over 2 million PET bottles a day into high-quality filament yarns. These yarns are used by some of the world’s leading brands to make a variety of products across all categories of clothing and textiles. Salient features of their sustainable process: Reduced water consumption – 86% less water consumption than conventional PET manufacturing. Their process results in zero discharge of liquid effluents; Energy Conservation – 75% less energy consumption than conventional PET manufacturing; Reduced landfills – Saves around 0.7 barrels of oil and 0.2 cubic metres of landfill by recycling every 1 ton of PET waste.
