AMD to invest $400M in India over the next five years
The investment in India will primarily go into expanding its design centre in Bengaluru which will become the largest such unit for AMD globally.
US-headquarted chip maker AMD has plans to invest around $400 million in India over the next five years, as it looks to expand its design centre operations in Bengaluru it said on Friday.
The investment also includes a new AMD campus in Bengaluru that will serve as its largest design center, as well as an addition of approximately 3,000 new engineering roles by the end of 2028, it said in a statement.
This campus is expected to open before the end of 2023.
AMD forayed into India in 2001 with a presence in New Delhi. It is now present in 10 locations in India which includes Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. It has just over 6,500 employees in India.

It will certainly play an important role in building a world-class semiconductor design and innovation ecosystem. It will also provide tremendous opportunities for our large pool of highly skilled semiconductor engineers and researchers..." said, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology of India.
AMD Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President Mark Papermaster said, “By further investing and expanding our presence in Bengaluru, we are committed to driving innovation in India to support the India Semiconductor Mission.”
