Samsung mobile manufacturing facility in Noida to create more jobs and business opportunities

Terming the setting up of a new Samsung mobile factory in Noida as a special one in the journey to make India a global manufacturing hub, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the company’s new facility along with visiting President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in at Noida on July 9.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the investment of about Rs 5000 crore would not only strengthen Samsung’s business links with India, but is also significant in the context of the relationship between India and Korea.

Samsung announced that it will double the capacity of its mobile phone factory in Noida making it the largest phone factory in the world. Underlining the importance of the old link between the two countries, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said the plant will create a “new IT civilisation forged in the sweat of Indian and Korean workers.”

Prime Minister Modi noted that India now ranks second globally in the manufacture of mobile phones with the number of mobile phone manufacturing factories rising from just 2 to 120 in about four years’ time. Out of the 120 mobile factories, 50 are in Noida alone.

According to the Prime Minister, about 30% of all phones made in the new unit will be exported.

More than four lakh people have been provided jobs in these manufacturing factories, and the Prime Minister noted that it will further create lakhs of employment opportunities. Samsung has given employment to 70,000 people in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath touched upon how Korea and Uttar Pradesh had a historic relationship when the princess of Ayodhya was married to a Korean prince. He said the factory would provide over 35,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

The Prime Minister stated that through this new mobile manufacturing facility and the combination of Korean technology and Indian manufacturing and software support, India will provide excellent products for the world.

He noted that digital technology is playing a key role in making the lives of the common man simpler, including through faster and more transparent service delivery. Narendra Modi spoke of the expansion of smartphones, broadband, and data connectivity, which he described as signs of a digital revolution in India.
