In January of 2023, they were accused of inflating their sales numbers and showcasing doctored expenses that were lesser than the amounts incurred. In a pitch to SoftBank the misleading numbers and expenses were unearthed.
In the same month, they reportedly laid off 70% of their staff since the inconsistencies were exposed.
Approximately a week after the layoffs, GoMechanic (backed by SoftBank and Sequoia) approached car-selling companies such as Cars24 and Spinny trying for a possible acquisition. A proposal was sent by the founders as part of a potential deal. In 2023 they were acquired by auto component maker Lifelong Group.
