Anirudh Kheny is one of the Partners at 1Q1 Kitchen & Bar, a majestic art deco inspired kitchen and bar serving authentic Asian cuisine and decadent cocktails. Within a few months of its inception, this restaurant has been recognized by trade magazines as one amongst the “Best New Restaurants in the Country”. Prior to this, Anirudh was with the Management Consulting and Strategy practice of KPMG for almost six years. Here are his answers to our Proust questionnaire...

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Spending quality time with family and my two Maltese pups.


What is your greatest fear?

Not being able to live up to my full potential.


What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

The need to control things that are out of my control.


What is the trait you most deplore in others?

The lack of loyalty.


Which living person do you most admire?

My father for his business acumen and my mother for her persistence.


What is your greatest extravagance?

I spend on vacations and gourmet experiences.


What is your current state of mind?

Hopeful and excited about the future.


What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Hard work, because we have always been told since we were children that if you work hard you get everything in life. However, at times you have to work smart to get there.


On what occasion do you lie?

I do not lie!


What do you most dislike about your appearance?

How I look with spectacles. So, I always try and avoid them by wearing contacts.


Which living person do you most despise?

People who like to flaunt their power and think they are above everyone else.


What is the quality you most like in a man? 

An easy-going nature.


What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Self-assurance and confidence.


Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Details, details, details…


What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My wife and my two dogs.


Which talent would you most like to have?

To be more creative.


If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To take life easy and stress less.


What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Making such a large-scale shift in careers successfully, even when people told me it was not possible.


If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

I would like to come back as a dog for their unconditional love and loyalty.


Where would you most like to live?

In Paris - for the sheer number of world class restaurants and art galleries and museums.


What is your most treasured possession?

My collection of single malts.


What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Doing something that would tarnish my name.


What is your favourite occupation?

Coming up with the next restaurant idea.


What is your most marked characteristic?

Paying attention to detail.


What do you most value in your friends?

The ability to say things as they are.


Who are your favourite writers?

Yuval Noah Harari and John Grisham.   


Who is your hero of fiction?

Batman.


Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Not any one person, some eminent people who have helped shaped the world such as Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell

and The Wright brothers.


Who are your heroes in real life?

Our Armed forces who always put the country ahead of themselves.


What is it that you most dislike?

Lack of cleanliness.


What is your greatest regret?

Not learning how to swim.


How would you like to die?

Peacefully and without regrets.


What is your favourite journey?

Leaving home to go anywhere in the world… to the excitement of the unknown.
