Indian honored among Grameen Foundation's recognition of women in microfinance
Saturday March 29, 2008 , 1 min Read
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Grameen Foundation released a list of women to be recognized for their work. Vinatha Reddy was the sole woman from India on that short list. Hats off to her:
A Montessori teacher by training, Vinatha Reddy’s career took a different turn after an encounter with an extremely poor student. After reading Give Us Credit by Grameen Foundation president Alex Counts, she was inspired to launch her own microfinance organization in 1999. She has since guided Grameen Koota through a successful pilot phase and is now looking at strategies to expand its outreach in rural Karnataka. In 2006, Grameen Koota also became the first MFI to adopt Mifos, Grameen Foundation’s open-source MIS system.
