Dr.B.S.Bansal, Chairman and MD of RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy, a chain of super-specialty Urology hospitals

Monday October 06, 2008 , 3 min Read

In Dr. Bansal's own words, he likes to challenge and question the existing medical treatments. This restlessness to find a solution to the existing method of surgerical stone operations took him around the world looking for an alternative.

Infact, while once on a flight to US, he got talking with his fellow passenger and told him about his search for a safe, non surgical stone removal solution for his patients. As luck would have it the passenger told him to go to Germany as he had heard about a company, which was about to launch the first machine that could conduct a non surgical operation. Dr.Bansal got down at the next airport and took a flight to Germany. When he went to buy the machine he was asked to wait as there was one order already from Brazil. But doctor did not give up and waited. To his good luck and luck of multitude of patients in India, the order from Brazil was cancelled and he immediately bought the machine.

He knew he had a solution in hand but the journey for entrepreneurship was yet to begin. Back in India, he opened his first hospital in 1986 at Mumbai. His innovative solution at that time met with lot of skepticism from doctors. Reasons were obvious: stone operations meant good money for some doctors and they could always perform repeat operations but the new technique was a simple non-surgical method that assured you a complete recovery.

But Dr. Bansal did not give up easily. He conducted camps across the country to educate on and conduct free stone operations. Soon the efficacy and credibility of RG Stone started spreading like wild fire. To promote his method, he requested big doctors to operate their patients in his hospital. Once people witnessed the hassle free recovery there was no looking back.

Over the last 20 years, RG Stone has grown into a chain of 16 super-specialty urology hospitals spread all across India and notched up many first to its credits such as Lithotripsy treatment; introducing 100 watt Holmium Laser; performing Laparoscopy assisted PCNL for a Pelvic Kidney Staghorn; treating youngest patient with stone (9 months); treating the oldest patient with stone (107 years); treating a patient having permanent cardiac pacemaker with stone by Lithotripsy

RG has also been certified by Guinness Book of World Records for treating the largest kidney stone (13 cm) in the world and it specialises in stone and prostrate disease management.

RG is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology available and the new ones are added in order to keep pace with the latest advancements worldwide.

Doctor success was validated by ICICI Venture investing in his hospital chain, which is now spread all across the country
