MCAFEE EXPANDS CLOUD SECURITY FOOTPRINT 500 PERCENT
Tuesday March 08, 2011 , 3 min Read
McAfee announced the activation of its fifth cloud data center in the past twelve months. The newest data center, located in London, England, expands the company’s global cloud security footprint, which includes data centers in Amsterdam, Sydney, Tokyo and several across North America. A new cloud data center in Hong Kong is expected to be online in the coming weeks.
The rapid deployment of the new cloud data centers demonstrates the commitment and ability of McAfee to meet the growing global demand for its industry-leading email and web Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security solutions. This commitment is further emphasized by McAfee’s attainment of ISO27001 (Information security management) certification for the operations of its email and web services.
“McAfee has been leading the industry with SaaS security solutions for more than a decade now,” said Scott Chasin, chief technology officer for the McAfee Cloud and Content business. “The rapid expansion of cloud data centers over the past year underscores our commitment to our customers and partners to deliver the highest-grade, global cloud security footprint.”
Each of the data centers are designed to deliver peak performance and reliability with a minimum of two data centers in each region acting as backup to one another. The data centers operate on multiple power feeds and connect to independent Internet trunks. In addition, the data centers are “carrier neutral”, meaning they don’t rely on any single Internet Service Provider for inbound or outbound traffic. McAfee also registers domain names with multiple vendors to help eliminate the risk of any provider-side issues.
Onsite physical features of McAfee cloud data centers include:
o High capacity HVAC systems (N+1 configuration)
o Redundant fiber entry points
o VESDA early warning fire detection systems
o Biometric scanners controlling physical access
o Continuous video surveillance through Closed Circuit TV (CCTV)
o Backup generators
o UPS power back-up with at least N+1 configuration
To deliver peak performance and efficiency of its SaaS security solutions, the McAfee cloud data centers utilize external routing tools such as UltraDNS Managed External DNS service along with Border Gateway Protocal (BGP) to ensure internet traffic is routed in quickest and most efficient manner.
Each cloud data center is managed and monitored 24x7x365 by the McAfee SaaS Network Operations Center (NOC), which is backed by hundreds of McAfee security researchers and experts around the world.
