'Startup Village' to be launched in Kerala with Infosys cofounder Kris Gopalakrishnan as the Chief Mentor

India's first 'startup village', a telecommunication technology startup business incubator will be set up at Kalamassary near Kochi. It has an ambitious plan to incubate 1,000 product startups, mostly by students over the next 10 years. It is a Public Private Partnership initiative with The National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, The Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, Technopark and MobME Wireless being the stakeholders. The startup village which is modeled on technology startup incubators in Silicon Valley will be launched in February this year and the first batch would be inducted in April.
The startup village is envisioned to provide all the facilities and services required to support student entrepreneurs. Infosys cofounder and co-chairman Kris Gopalakrishnan will be the 'Chief Mentor' of the incubator, interacting and mentoring the student entrepreneurs.
