YourStory visited Gujarat for the first time with the  TechSparks Roundtable this year and has now established a special bonding with this State. We always knew about the entrepreneurial Gujarati spirit, but this event just reinforced that fact. Gujarat is known for being industrious but definitely not starting up. But with strong boosts coming in from different quarters, the scene is changing. IIM-A is playing a huge role with the CIIE's iAccelerator incubator proving to be a strong startup enabler in the area. The incubator takes in startup ideas from across the countries (applications for the 4th batch are open) but having a presence in Ahmedabad does a lot for the spirit. Apart from IIM, the likes EDI (Entrepreneurship Development Institute) and Venture Studio are also taking progressive steps to propel innovation.

Talking to a few of the incubatees at iAccelerator, finding Technical talent is still a problem in the state but the situation is changing. Infibeam is a prime example of a successful startup from Ahmedabad with Vishal Mehta, the founder being a role model for many. Here, we look at some of the startups we came across during our campaign.

MobiVidya
 MobiVidya

MobiVidya, a portal of AIG Tech Pvt Ltd started by Himanshu Gupta, is an Ahmedabad, Gujarat based startup that makes educational Apps for students.

MobiVidya has launched two products: WordsVidya and VerbsVidya. These are Apps for vernacular students who aspire to master English. Himanshu Gupta went ahead and took MobiVidya to the finals of the mBillionth Awards 2012 organized by Osama Manzar.

 IWillStudy

IWillStudy was started by Ritesh Ambastha from Ahmedabad in order to cater the best possible training to students to turn them into smart professionals.

IWillStudy is a social portal for helping students in learning new technologies through online forums. Students can make a profile which works as an online resume wherein their contributions to the forums are highlighted. This provides the students with an opportunity to connect with recruiters. Industry professionals also contribute as guests to the forums and keep an eye on the student activities.

 Templatic

Launched on December 10th, 2009 by a 15 member team lead by R Bhavesh residing in Surat, Gujarat, Templatic makes and sells WordPress themes and plugins.

Word press being a ubiquitous CMS (Content Management System), the requirement of various themes for general blogs and professional WordPress integrated sites is considerable. Being based out of a Tier-2 city and catering to businesses mainly in the US is a commendable job indeed!

 LiftSuggest

Started by two entrepreneurs, Ravi Pathak and Suketu Parikh, LiftSuggest works on your website’s Google Analytics data and generate actionable information that is ready to create recommendations.

LiftSuggest is a Product recommendation Tool which gives Product Recommendations based on the Product users are browsing. It improves Conversion rate and increases repeat purchase.

 BookAdSpace

A brainchild of Prayag Kasundra, BookAdSpace provides software solutions to media owners and media agencies which help them manage their businesses with the ability to create networks and exchange information like Inventory, RFQ/Quotes etc.

A Morpheus Gang Company, Bookadspace Pro is a technology platform for media owners and media buyers (agencies and brands). Media owners will be able to store and manage their media inventory on the software platform and media buyers will be able to search for ad-spaces from media owners on this platform, provided they have permission from media owners to access their inventory.

CazbakCazbak.in is a unique shopping rewards concept for the e-commerce industry in India. Cazbak is an online loyalty based website which redirects users to their intended retailer and in turn rewards them back with a certain amount of their spending as cash back. For example, if a user buys a watch worth Rs.1000 from a Cazbak partner store who is offering 5% cash back, the user gets Rs.50 as cash back from the store. Going strong from the past year, run by Vadodara based Rauf Saiyed, Cazbak is a front runner in this space.
