“This section is powered by HP Make it Matter - believe in the power of people when technology works for them”
MindHelix Technosol, a Kochi based startup has launched updates for their app, SENTINEL – a smartphone application for personal security. "The app can call your friends and family with your location in case of danger on the press of a button. It works in multiple scenarios even without triggering an alert manually," informs co-founder Kallidil Kalidasan. The app can send out alerts even if the attacker forcefully destroys the phone. As the call, SMS and email are sent from and Internet server, it keeps the person safer. The application triggers an alert even if the user is not connected to the Internet by sending SMS with location to the server.
The alerts consist of the last known location, time and direction with tracking information to see live data from the phone and pinpoint the location of the phone.
The application was created with urban users in mind and it depends on the availability of continuous cellular connectivity (within cities). With security being a major concern and attacks on citizens being more common than ever throughout developed and developing countries, Sentinel can provide and extra blanket of security enabling quick alerts while facing threats. With the release of smartphones and smartphone penetration being on an all-time high among professionals, an alert mechanism, which is simple to use, is a necessity.
