Google Glass in the operation theatre – Dr J. S. Rajkumar, Chief Surgeon and Chairman, Lifeline Hospitals
Journalists sitting around a conference table watched the live projection of a surgery that was happening a few hundred metres away. Beaming the images from the operation theatre, through Hangout, was Google Glass worn by Dr J. S. Rajkumar, Chief Surgeon and Chairman, Lifeline Hospitals, who explained the procedure even as he was performing.
Partnering with Lifeline was Virginia-based advanced mobile research and development organization, Nasotech LLC, founded by Shiva Thirumazhusai. Nasotech is one of the first of the 2,000 chosen by Google earlier this year as “explorers” to test the device before its release to the general public, informed Shiva.
Dr Rajkumar sees a great potential in Google Glass to enhance healthcare delivery by helping doctors collaborate with experienced medical professionals over the internet. Also, “Students in medical colleges can benefit by viewing the procedures live.”
