Bundi, a small town in Rajasthan to become India's first town with minute digital mapping
Bundi city in Rajasthan will be the first city in country to have minute digital mapping with comprehensive database of its demographical and geographical information, including small lanes, streets, trees, drains, electric poles and houses, besides monuments with detailed information, a senior official of Municipal Council said.
The digitization process is underway and is likely to be completed in next six months, Bundi Municipal Council Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Mangal said, adding the digital mapping of the city has so far helped in identifying the encroachments.
Encroachments have been removed from government land in 32 colonies of the city, Mangal said. Adding the officials also said that it will also bring accountability and transparency in working.
We have identified 1089 bighas of land as government land and now the drive will continue to remove encroachments over the government land. The digital mapping will check the unplanned and illegal constructions.
Once the digital mapping project is over, one can easily access the database to the exact location and dimension of a house or any other construction, its owner and occupants, he said. Before issuance of any document or license, an official will be able to check and verify the details with the help of the minute digital mapping, the Commissioner said.

After the complete digitization, even the common man of the city would be able to keep an eye over his property or assets, the commissioner claimed.
Digital mapping (also called digital cartography) basically involves collection of data and it is compiled and formatted into a virtual image. Its main function is to produce maps that give accurate representations of a particular area, detailing major road distributions and other points of interest. The technology also allows you to calculate the distance between 2 places.
Though digital mapping can be found in a variety of computer applications, such as Google Earth, its main function is Global Positioning System, or GPS satellite network which can be used in standard automotive navigation systems as well.
