Dharshana MV has partial vision in her left eye and is sightless in her right eye. However, she did not let this deter her and has performed excellently in the CBSE Class 12 examination. She fought all odds to secure the third rank among the differently-abled students with 96.6 percent marks.

Dharshana was a commerce student at Nalanda International Public School in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. She suffers from poor eyesight due to a medical condition called microcornea and has depended on the magnifying glass for studies. While speaking to the IANS, she said,

For me, my poor eyesight was never a hindrance. My family doctor suggested that I use a magnifying glass. I have been using the magnifying glass to study since Class 6. I avoided reading on the computer as it causes some pressure on the eyes.

Dharshana is grateful to her parents and teachers for their firm belief in her which motivated her to work hard and perform well. She was able to overcome her challenges with the help of her school management and ophthalmologist. The combined efforts of her parents, teachers, ophthalmologist and the family physician, who always advised her and motivated her at every step, helped her develop her confidence. According to the India Today, she said,

I am very happy. My general principle is that I like to do my best in whatever I do. So when I started preparing for class XII examination, I decided I should do my best. Keeping that in my mind I started preparing.

She is also aware of the other students who are suffering from the same medical condition as hers and urges doctors, who have knowledge of the full treatment, to come forward. She says that the current medical treatment does not completely cure microcornea and it will be a relief if someone comes forward with the full cure.

Dharshana wants to stay in her home state for further studies and does not wish to move to Mumbai or Delhi. While speaking to the IANS about her future plans, she said,

I have planned to do B.Com. in Chennai as it also has the top colleges. Besides my studies, I also plan to learn Carnatic music.
