Jaipur girl starts NGO in college, bags Rs 30 lakh package in campus placement
A student of Economics at the prestigious St Stephen’s College in New Delhi, Aashima Jain kept busy not only with her academics, but also with her non-government organisation Buzzify.
Buzzify promotes smaller organisations that work in the social sector, taking their reach and the awareness about the work being done by them to a large audience. Aashima and five of her friends primarily used the social media to promote organisations, and also worked with some to address relevant social causes.
Aashima ran the Safe City Campaign to observe different aspects, and drawbacks, of Delhi in terms of safety to work towards the pain-points of residents. She raised issues like the lack of street lights, or cameras, in dark alleys. She also documented areas where there were few female police officers on duty, and handed the same to the Delhi Police.
To address concerns pertaining to women and children, Aashima joined hands with the NGO Lakshyam. She also collaborated with an organisation to spread awareness about cancer. As part of her efforts, Aashima also worked to spread awareness about environmental issues, and worked closely with the NGO Dakshana to collect waste paper, and end it for recycling.
Hailing from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Aashima scored 96.4 percent in her 12th Board Exams and topped her school. During her graduation in Delhi, she actively participated in social work and was the president of the Social Entrepreneurship Organisation in college.
The big feather in Aashima's cap was when multinational company Parthenon- EY, as part of their campus recruitments, offered her the post of an associate and an annual package of Rs 30 lakh.
