View Brand Publisher5 times Benny Dayal proved that struggle is a part of success
It’s been a decade since Benny Dayal started as a playback singer in films. The multi-talented vocalist with the rockstar voice got his break with AR Rahman’s Tamil film Sakarakatti (2007). Since then, the unconventional singer has had back-to-back hits like Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi, Maduraikku, Omane Penne, Main Tera Hero, Badtameez Dil, Locha-e-Ulfat, Yethi Yethi, and Ude Dil Befikre, among others.
However, the success came with its own set of ups and downs. Here are five instances which show how Benny Dayal handled the challenges and proved that nothing can hold one back when it comes to passion.
Dayal realised that he wanted to become a singer when he was all of 14. So he did everything in his power to become a good singer and, most importantly, enjoy his passion. But it wasn’t an easy process. Benny was rejected a number of times before an opportunity came knocking at his door.
Even after being turned down, Dayal never gave up his dream of becoming a playback singer. All that patience did pay off. He got a call from AR Rahman’s office just three days after joining a BPO and almost having let go of his dream.
Dayal lends his voice to songs in different languages, including Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. But how does he manage? It’s because he loves learning. He once said, “If you limit yourself based on language, you are creating a block. I listen to the tune carefully, write down the lyrics carefully and also sing the song carefully.”
Versatility is his forte, but Dayal never stays away too long from making independent music. He even said, “After getting so much fame, I felt that I hadn't given back enough. So, I decided to concentrate on my singles, music videos and collaborate with other composers on their singles.”
The singer believes that being an underdog keeps him grounded. He doesn’t want to be overly celebrated. He says he does not attach too much importance to fame, and adds that all he wants is to record songs and be better at it every day.
