Deadline to link Aadhaar with various services extended indefinitely; Pine Labs, Ofo raise funds

With no imminent end or verdict on whether the Aadhaar Act is illegal and a violation of a citizen’s Right to Privacy, the Supreme Court has ruled that the March 31 deadline — that had been decided in the latter half of last year — for the linking of Aadhaar to various services like mobile phones, bank accounts and passports has been extended indefinitely until further notice.


Point of Sale and digital retail payments provider Pine Labs announced it has raised $82 million in a round led by Actis Capital and new investor Altimeter Capital. This investment will be used by the company to accelerate the company’s penetration into the home market as well as for its expansion outside India.

Chinese dockless bike-sharing unicorn Ofo has raised fresh funding of $866 million in a round led by Alibaba Group.

The round also saw participation from Ant Financial, Haofeng Group, Junli Capital and Tianhe Capital. This is believed to be one of the largest fundraises by a bike-sharing company. It is a combination of debt and equity financing.


Estonia is keen to tap into India’s rich talent pool in technology and startups. It is offering options where Indian entrepreneurs can set up businesses on an 18-month startup visa, and extend it to access clients in the EU market says the country's Entrepreneurship & IT Minister Urve Palo.

India’s IT industry — a traditionally male-dominated sector — seems to be slowly yet surely closing the gender gap, according to Nasscom’s Women and IT Scorecard – India. Nasscom estimates that nearly 60 percent of Indian IT firms have 20 percent women at the C-Suite level. Companies reported a 4.5 percent higher proportion of young women aged between 30 and 35 in C-Suite roles than men in the same age group.
