Google brings its SummerWithGoogle summer camp for kids for the first time to India
Google is now throwing its hat in the ring to promote tech savviness amongst children – by rolling out a brand new initiative targeting the little ones to make them more productive in their infinitely long summer breaks. This new program, titled ‘#SummerWithGoogle’ is an educational yet exciting take on learning the use of futuristic tech to enrich young impressionable minds.
Under this initiative, the tech giant plans to “offer a variety of activities to keep teenagers engaged throughout their summer vacations,” Google India’s director of trust and safety, Sunita Mohanty, was quoted saying in an article in Livemint.
The ultimate aim of these tasks and challenges is to train Gen Z in being “Internet Smart, Internet Alert, Internet Strong, Internet Kind and Internet Brave,” she further added.
Being opened for business in India for the very first time, Summer With Google invites parents and children for an array of activities over the course of the vacation, that must be accomplished using Google’s myriad online tools like like Google Earth, Google Translate and Google Arts and Culture.
The way it will play out, is that one assignment will be granted to the registered participants every week for a span of four weeks – and the last assignment of this series will require the kids to code and at the same time, use their creativity to develop an app to best depict and consolidate their experience doing the program.
All these submissions will be evaluated to select 100 winners. “After four weeks, 100 children will be chosen along with an accompanying parent to visit our campus in either Delhi or Hyderabad to attend an interactive workshop,” said Sunita, adding that adults should also participate in this unique initiative from the initial stages to ensure their child derives the best value from it.
