India gets its first ever dedicated dog park in Hyderabad
For the first time in India, dog owners will have a dedicated dog park to visit. Set up in Hyderabad, the park is spread across an area of 1.3 acres.
The park houses dog training equipment, play equipment, splash pool, fountain, areas for exercise, amphitheater, lawns, separate kennels for small and big dogs and a dedicated dog clinic.
The park was initially a dump yard at Kondapur. It was converted into a dog park by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at a cost of Rs 1.1 crore. The inauguration of the park is scheduled to be held in next week, says The Quint.
It is developed at the international standards and is also certified by the Kennel Club of India.
The man behind the development of dog park is an IAS officer Harichandana, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Zonal Commissioner. He developed it on the lines of pet parks, which is common abroad.
In an interview with The News Minute, Rajendra Kumar, an official with the Urban Biodiversity Wing of GHMC, said,
The park has a dog training centre where certified professionals would train the pets. It also has a dog splash pool and an exclusive dog play area. There is a para-vet clinic where veterinary professionals would administer to the medical needs of the dogs. And for regular visitors, there is a separate walkway and benches to relax.
He added,
Pet parks are common in foreign countries but, in India, we do not have any such facility and pets are usually not allowed into regular parks. We built the park on a dump yard that was lying barren and the entire set up took around six months to build. There is an entry ticket fee for both dogs and visitors to the park.
The park also boasts of provisions for a person with disabilities and their dog helpers to exercise and enjoy outdoor activities without the fear of accidents.
