Smartphone maker OnePlus pulls a Xiaomi, to release smart TV in 2019
Smartphone major OnePlus has announced that a smart TV is on the cards for the company. With the thrust on home connectivity on the rise, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is betting on smart tech to build a TV with design, image quality and audio experience that has a premium feeling. OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau, it is said, will lead this project himself.
OnePlus wants to balance high-quality hardware with the latest in technology and craft hardware that carries great design. “The world has come to know and love OnePlus and we will continue to apply across its new television division,” the company stated in a press release.
OnePlus will be asking for feedback and suggestions from the users about what should be included in its new smart TV. It is also asking users to come up with a name for the TV, and the winner will be announced before December 2018. The TV is said to be available in 2019.
Lau said,
“I dream about a time when technology is truly seamless, an effortless part of your life without being the focus. As other consumer electronics have evolved and improved our lives, televisions have remained conventional and cumbersome. We bring inherent advantages to the industry, and with this new division, we’re excited to explore the total connected user experience that can enhance everyday life."
He added, "For most of us, there are four major environments we experience each day: the home, the workplace, the commute, and being on-the-move. The home – perhaps the most important environment experience – is just starting to enjoy the benefits of intelligent connectivity. Something that seems as simple as displaying the photos from your mobile phone to a television is still difficult to achieve. With the development of AI technology, our imagination is endless – and we are looking forward to the future.”
