(Weekly funding roundup July 25-31) VC funding drops to another low
Venture capital funding has plunged to the second lowest level on a weekly basis for the year till now.
Venture capital funding into Indian startups has dropped to its second lowest level on a weekly basis for the year till now, revealing the deep challenges that the ecosystem continues to face with respect to attracting funding.
The total funding for the last week of July was just $67 million across 14 deals. In contrast, the previous week saw $162 million.

Also, this is the sixth time in the year till now that the funding raised on a weekly basis has been below $100 million.
The lowest level of VC funding into Indian startups on a weekly basis this year has been $66 million in May.
These developments do not bode well for the Indian startup ecosystem. Several reasons have contributed to this situation.
Firstly, AI, which is the flavour of the season for investors, has not created a significant splash in the Indian startup ecosystem as yet. Indian AI startups have still not generated enough interest for capital to flow into this segment.

Secondly, the macroeconomic environment is not exactly conducive for the Indian startup ecosystem both from the domestic economic standpoint as well as the broader global trends.
The understanding now is that the situation has reached a low point and there can only be an upward movement from now on in terms of capital inflow.
