Amazon India adds 160,000 seasonal jobs; JioHotstar goes global
The temporary jobs created by Amazon India includes both direct and indirect work opportunities across 400 cities in the country.
Dear Reader,
The job market is sending a clear signal: specialised skills are paying off.
AI professionals saw their salaries rise 12% year-on-year, while pay in many traditional IT roles remained flat or declined, according to foundit. Over the past two years, AI salaries have climbed 23%, with Bengaluru emerging as the highest-paying market for senior AI talent. Cybersecurity and semiconductors are also seeing strong growth as demand shifts towards specialised skills.
As AI reshapes some jobs, the festive season is creating plenty of others. Amazon India is creating more than 160,000 seasonal work opportunities across 400 cities, covering everything from picking and packing to shipping and delivery. Thousands of these roles are earmarked for women and associates with disabilities, with most of the seasonal workforce already onboarded.
In other news, India’s proposed food warning labels are drawing criticism from both sides. The FSSAI’s plan calls for red labels on products high in at least two of three nutrients—sugar, salt, and saturated fat. Health experts say that could let products high in just one nutrient slip through, while food companies argue the proposed thresholds are too stringent.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook’s next Apple pay cheque is worth $47 million. As executive chair, Cook will receive a $2 million salary and $45 million in shares, with half of the stock award tied to performance and the remainder vesting over four years.
