Are You New to Blogging? Here Are 10 Best Tips
Newbie bloggers make a ton of mistakes that ruin their initial efforts. If you’re a beginner and need some reliable pieces of advice, this article will show you 10 things you need to do.
These actionable blogging tips will help you operate at full speed so you can achieve your long term goals. Keep reading.
1. Get started ASAP.
Have you read articles and tutorials on how to start a blog? If so, what’s taking you so long to create one? You don’t need to have a perfect plan to launch a website. Unless you lack a blogging goal or can’t really commit to creating content, you can get started right away. Inaction only sets you up for failure.
2. Know who you’re targeting.
Newbie bloggers make the mistake of not having a well-defined audience. Who are you writing for and selling to? Are your readers and customers pet lovers? Gardeners? Are they males, females, or both? The audience persona that you create will be the basis of all your efforts. Be passionate about serving your audience’s needs.
3. Don’t expect overnight success.
Are you too ambitious? Don’t be. If you ask me how long will it take before you can see blogging results, here’s my honest answer: That totally depends on you. While success is dependent on your efforts, expecting it to happen overnight is unrealistic. What you need to focus on right now is crafting daily content that appeals to your readers and search engines.
4. Discover your writing voice.
When I first started my online business blog, I struggled with finding my true writing voice. I liked how my favorite bloggers sounded. Sometimes I found myself trying to copy them. As I let go and allowed myself to write the way I talk, words began to flow easily. I know I sound more authentic and human now.
5. Use images in your blog posts.
Blog posts that have no images are plain and boring. Images are important for several reasons: They get your messages across quick, add length to your articles, spark social media interest, and create an emotional connection with your audience. Make sure to add images that are related to your topic. Rename them appropriately and include keywords if possible.
6. Pick a few social media platforms.
You can’t be on all social media platforms. Find out where most of your target customers are. That depends on your blogging niche. Food and fashion brands (or anything that involves visual content) have more audiences on Instagram. On the other hand, business and marketing brands do well on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
7. Be unique.
No copycatting. As you create a blog, find out what your unique proposition is. Try to explore the things that your competitors are missing out on. What can you offer that other businesses haven’t yet? Also, write from your personal experiences. Share what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past.
8. Create content with a long shelf life.
Will the pieces of content you created stay relevant for years to come? Choose to write about topics that is not bound by time constraints. Avoid mentioning the words “a couple of months/years ago/from now.” If you’re going to write about a certain event, you might not want to get too detailed about it to the point of including specific dates. Don’t date your blog posts.
9. Keep on guest posting.
Aside from publishing regular content on your blog, do it on other websites or blogs. Guest posting is a brilliant strategy to share your messages to new audience who are likely to be interested in them. Find relevant, authoritative websites that allow you to leave a backlink to your blog. This increases your SEO and helps you get traffic.
10. Focus on quality over quantity.
Some people who build a blog website wonder whether they should write short or long articles. The best answer? Any length as long as it’s valuable. A 500-word blog post that provides massive value is much better than a 1,000-word blog post that’s boring, irrelevant, and sloppily written. Make sure to proofread your content.
