BetterPlace launches SkillConnect, aims to synergize hiring in blue-collar workspace
BetterPlace, a digital platform for managing lifecycle of blue-collar employees, launched SkillConnect with the aim to bridge the gap between demand and supply in the blue collar workspace.
The platform has been designed to meet the continuously evolving demands of the industry with the subsequent availability of skilled blue collar workforce.
At present, training centres operate on a fixed curriculum not completely aligned with the demands of the industry. As a result, the candidates struggle to find jobs once their apprenticeship gets over.
SkillConnect aims to address this fundamental mismatch through technology. The platform will acquire and aggregate data from the industry in terms of labour skill requirements. The data would then be utilised by training centres to train candidates.
Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anantkumar Hegde, CEO of NSDC Manish Kumar, BetterPlace founders Saurabh Tandon and Pravin Agarwala, and many other leaders from the industry were present at the launch.
Here’s who said what at the launch:
Pravin Agarwala, CEO and Co-founder of BetterPlace, said, "While employers in high growth sectors like logistics and facility management etc are seeing a severe shortage of skilled manpower, training institutes are increasingly looking for placement opportunities for their trained candidates. SkillConnect will help connect both the sides."
Manish Kumar, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), said, "SkillConnect will provide reliable data reflecting the needs of the industry, which would help us enhance the placements by aligning our training efforts with the demands of the industry.”
Sandeep Sethi, MD IFM, JLL, said, "The industry in facility management space is growing at 15% annually and will need more than 10 lakh people in the next one year. By providing ready-to-be-deployed workforce, SkillConnect will act as a catalyst.
