Ecommerce for MSMEs: FISME to organise round table conference on online selling for small businesses

Monday May 20, 2019 , 2 min Read

With the aim to discuss the evolution, market trends, and issues related to ecommerce faced by MSMEs, the Competition Commission of India and Ernst & Young have partnered with Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) to host a round table conference in New Delhi, KNN India reported.

The move comes four months after FISME partnered with Amazon India in December 2018 to empower MSMEs to tap into ecommerce.

Now, the round table conference will be organised on 24 May, 2019, at the Office of the Competition Commission of India, New Delhi, the report added. At the round table, MSMEs are expected to share insights, challenges, thoughts, and feedback on their experience with ecommerce.

MSMEs often face challenges when it comes to adapting to changing times, and ecommerce is no different. It usually poses a challenge on MSMEs in terms of the selling price offered to the customers during festive and flagship sales.

The small businesses that are listed on ecommerce portals struggle with the listing price. The shopkeepers and retailers who are absent on these portals are faced with the reality of decreased demand due to competition from giants like Flipkart and Amazon India.

In a December 2018 announcement, FISME and Amazon India had announced they will conduct various events and workshops across the country to enable and encourage MSMEs to sell their products to millions of consumers by using ecommerce marketplace solutions.

With this partnership, Amazon India and FISME sought to educate MSMEs on the nuances of online selling domestically and also B2C exports. The collaboration aimed to give MSMEs access to experts from Amazon, FISME, and various service providers to help them understand the procedures and requirements related to areas such as logistics, cataloging, imaging, and taxation.

MSMEs would also be educated on digital business opportunity, brand building, documentation, listing methodology and services such as Fulfilment by Amazon and Sponsored Ads.
