Uday Mehta, Founder, Sunrise Computers Systems Pvt Ltd, says, "MLS is a comprehensive e-learning management system integrating Audio, Video and Text. It synchronises video with study material (e-book), where video is driven by text and vice versa. It is very useful tool for the organisation to train their people about policy & procedure, products and services effectively, where individual learn with their own learning pace." Uday asserts that the content has been prepared by British and American teachers: "You get to listen straight from the horse's mouth."
The software also provides evaluation procedure along with feedback mechanism to judge the efficiency and effectiveness. The company has already sold MLS to few companies. The product is one more feather in the cap of Sunrise Computers who rose to challenges faced by their clients and has consistently come up with innovative software solutions. The company's logo has been "Growth thru the Customer Satisfaction" and true to that Uday mentions list of satisfied clientele which includes organization like the World Bank, UNDP, ADB, UNICEF, Mckinsey & Co., Govt. of India, Royal Govt. of Bhutan to name the few. The company specializes in developing Project Monitoring Information Software (PMIS) for these Multi lateral / Bi-lateral donor aided projects where the donor would like to keep track of amount of fund disbursed vis-a-vis percentage of work being completed. However, Udayâ's entrepreneurial journey had its share of struggles and failures. Uday briefly runs through his illustrious educational qualifications and professional background: "I always wanted to be my own boss. Education was in the family. I pursued Electrical Engineering from I.I.T. Mumbai, which I completed in 1974 and then in 1975 successfully completed Cost and Works Accountants examinations from Kolkatta. In the same year, I went to U.S.A and completed by M. B. A. in Finance from Santa Clara University. I did M. A. in Economics from California StateUniversity at Haywards and also obtained my License to Practice as C.P.A., Certified Public Accountant from California based on my work experience with Price Waterhouse & Co."
After leaving Price Waterhouse & Co., Uday joined General Electric & Co. in San Jose and finally moved to The World Bank in Washington D.C. In 1995, he came back to India to start Sunrise Computers in Delhi. They started with developing software for multi-lateral and bilateral projects of World Bank in India. The company made good progress until they launched Travel-o-Mart, a 3000 pages travel portal in the year1999-2000
"We had developed a large travel portal way ahead of some of the travel portals existing today. Price Waterhouse & Co valued the site at $5 million in the year 2000. Then suddenly NASDAQ crashed on April 16th 2000 and there was a big bust in DOT COM market. We could never get the funding and eventually had to close down the site," says Uday. "The setback taught me to focus on the core competencies and I got back to developing software."
Now, Uday is bullish on MLS and is looking to sell the product in international markets such as Gulf and South-East Asia. The company is in B2B domain where they sell the platform with some of the ready content and client in turn can upload it's own content.
Good Luck Uday, hope this time around you survive this market meltdown and come out with flying colors.
