VIT Extends Deadline for Social Transformers 2010

Application deadline for Social Transformers 2010 has been extended to 1st September. Hurry, the applications would be scrutinized on rolling basis from now on.
Phase I applications has been already sent to our selection panel which consists of intellectuals from different spheres. A special feature has been introduced for international participants, that they can present their venture ideas via video-conferencing.
For a quick info: Social Transformers are individuals who are supported and funded by VIT University’s Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Development [CSED] to run their projects that have a social impact with a mission to put technology and knowledge to work, to solve critical social problems. It will happen during graVITas (17th -19th September), tech fest of VIT University which hosts 'Social Transformers' to bring together best young minds to put their ideas to work in society. CSED facilitates and guides these groups to execute the projects.
This year judges would be:
1. Vishnu Swaminathan, Director-Housing for all initiative, Ashoka Foundation, India.
2. Vasudev Avadhani, Advisor- NSR Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, IIM Bangalore
3. Pankaj Jain, Indian Legal Associate, Acumen Fund, India
4. Charles Tsai, Founder and Executive Director of Global Youth Fund, Canada.
Former Director of Virtual Program, Ashoka's Youth Venture at Washington D.C. and Previously worked at CNN as a reporter and producer
This year four specific themes have been chosen keeping in mind the global challenges we face today. They are:
- Renewable Energy
- Water for all
- Poverty alleviation
- Waste management
There would be one venture from each theme that would be awarded 1000$ seed funds each and mentorship. There would be enormous resources provided and a special workshop organised for them.
