OrangeScape, India's leading PaaS provider on Cloud, makes a majestic entry into the US market through Persistent Systems

Tuesday February 22, 2011 , 5 min Read

Orange Scape

OrangeScape, based in Chennai, rated by Gartner and Forrester as among the top Platform as a Service (PaaS) providers in the world, entered the US market in style through a partnership with Persistent Systems, based out of Pune. This is likely to set the competition hotting up in the North American market for PaaS services. Persistent is a market leader specializing in outsourced product development and has more than 250 clients on its list. The OrangeScape-Persistent deal has been realized through the 1M/1M-Persistent partnership.1M/1M is an ambitious program to build 1 million entrepreneurs with 1 million dollar revenues and beyond by 2020. Sramana Mitra, strategy consultant in the Silicon Valley and author, started the 1M/1M initiative in January 2010. 1M/1M has partnered with Persistent to provide a channel for go-to-market strategies of 1M/1M entrepreneurs.

Persistent will be selling and providing implementation services for OrangeScape and also take OrangeScape to its existing customers. Persistent will target two markets: (1) Enterprises, to position a App Platform in the Cloud and (2) ISVs, to want to use PaaS to build Software as a Service (SaaS).

Visibly excited about the deal, Suresh Sambandam, CEO and Founder of OrangeScape said: “This deal with Persistent Systems will bring OrangeScape a cost-effective go-to-market solution through their global sales team and offshore backed enterprise implementation support through technology experts in Persistent’s Cloud Practice.”

OrangeScape has established itself as a leader in Asia Pacific region in PaaS and has marquee customers on its clientele such as Citibank, AstraZeneca, Unilever, Pfizer and 50 large companies. The US entry is a huge leg up for OrangeScape, which has been a trendsetter of sorts for the Indian software product industry.

Persistent Systems serves as a reseller and channel for products from select 1M/1M entrepreneurs. In addition, Persistent Systems also provides outsourced product development services to some of these companies.

Commenting on the deal with OrangeScape, Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman and MD of Persisent said: “We have been proactively investing in Cloud Computing, and believe that OrangeScape’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) product will nicely supplement our portfolio of cloud technologies to provide large enterprises an app platform in the Cloud and use PaaS for ISVs migrating to SaaS. OrangeScape, when sold through right channels, can have a significant impact in the market.”

“OrangeScape is one of the most promising Indian product companies we have seen so far, and we see an exciting opportunity for them to enhance the capabilities of Google’s App Engine in long tail enterprise apps. Over time, we foresee OrangeScape becoming a leader in the A-PaaS (Application PaaS) space and also a cornerstone of the Google enterprise solution portfolio,” explained Sramana Mitra, founder of 1M/1M, adding that "The 1M/1M philosophy is to focus our entrepreneurs on customer acquisition and revenue without burning through a huge amount of cash in building expensive channels. Our partnership with Persistent Systems is focused on taking promising small companies to market, efficiently. "

On Persistent’s partnership with 1M/1M, Dr. Deshpande pointed out: “We at Persistent are very excited to work with 1M/1M in helping entrepreneurs succeed by bringing new technologies to market.”

Complimenting the 1M/1M program, Suresh Sambandam stated: ”I also take the opportunity to recommend 1M/1M as a great program for Indian entrepreneurs looking to access US customers. Sramana’s extensive experience and rolodex has helped us zero-in on an immediately actionable revenue-focused strategy and engage the Persistent sales force with great commitment and enthusiasm.”
