Another Shuffle in the Cab Hiring Space- Meru India Head Joins TaxiForSure

Tuesday July 17, 2012 , 3 min Read

The cab hiring space in India has been witness to a lot of shuffling and juggling. With a funding spree that took place earlier this year, all the players are vying for the throne. Ola Cabs, Savaari, Yourcabs, TaxiGuide have been in the thick of action. In a recent announcement, Ola Cabs, Ex Flipkart VP Maneesh Mittal joined Ola Cabs and today Ronald Rosario, India Head of Operations at Meru Cabs, has moved to TaxiForSure.com in capacity of a COO.

Serendipity Infolabs Pvt. Limited runs the online taxi booking site TaxiForSure.com which was founded by IIM Ahmedabad graduates Raghunandan G and Aprameya Radhakrishna in June 2011. Ronald Rosario has over 22 years of experience in B2B and B2C businesses and has delivered results for fortune 500 companies and commenting on the move, he said, “The Taxi industry is  growing rapidly  and there is a rising need for finding a cab across categories, that is  easily accessible and reaches the commuter on time. To fill in the gap, TaxiForSure.com has been playing a pro-active role in providing accessible, safe and reliable taxi rides to commuters making use of futuristic technology. It is a great pleasure to be associated with TaxiForSure.com. I look forward to significantly contribute to this venture and work to  expand  operations rapidly across India.”

TaxiForsure.com has an established presence in Bangalore and is looking forward to expand to other cities like Delhi and Mumbai very soon and also raised a funding round recently. Talking about the taxi space, Parag Dhol, Managing Director, Inventus Capital who is on the board of Redbus said,

I would call it a natural progression. Travel was first picked up by MakeMyTrip and the existing 5-7 airlines at that time were integrated. Then I’d say Redbus solved the bus problem aggregating close to 1200 operators. And cab rental is the next area with many more players involved. Many investors made this move and to an extent it is also following the trend but it is more about the looming opportunity.

With an unsolved problem at hands, there are multiple players entering with two apparently distinct strategies. There is one group which is entering the metros one by one and aims to have a stranglehold here. This group is the newer lot which has come into existence in the past two years. Then there's the other group which has been around from quite sometime and has a more spreadout operation in terms of cities and are more intent on capturing the less contested areas.

With so many players entering the space, which is the winner according to you? Do you have a favourite?
