2012 Tech30 startup, GAMOOZ, is up to new things with Augmented Reality
GAMOOZ is one of the few startups in the country which deals with Augmented Reality. They specialize in building augmented reality applications for mobile phones, desktop, screens and kiosks. Started by Gaurav Wadwa and Harish Mathur in 2011, GAMOOZ has come a long way since we featured them last in our TECH 30 report at TechSparks 2012.
In its early days, GAMOOZ did a campaign with Ford using Augmented Reality which reached out to around five million people.Apart from the scale of this campaign, the speed at which they delivered this was notable. It took them just five days to deliver this. This campaign helped them get several clients onboard. They also got another project by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd to work on an Augmented Reality implementation for a Diorama(a three-dimensional miniature or life-size scene in which figures, stuffed wildlife, or other objects are arranged in a naturalistic setting against a painted background) for them which was showcased at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. And all this was accomplished with a team size of just four people, two of them being the co-founders of the company.
Since then, the team has grown to an employee strength of around 15 people and they have also expanded to multiple offices, including one in Malaysia.GAMOOZ has ventured into services as well.
One of the products they came out with was ZOOP. ZOOP is an Augmented Reality app for Android platform which helps people discover products. When you walk into a bookstore and check out a book, you may not have enough time to fire up a browser on your cell phone and Google for more information. All you need to do is to scan the cover with ZOOP and it will give you all the information related to it. And it is not only limited to books, one can scan almost any product to view information about the product. GAMOOZ has also tied up with partners in the US, Spain, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Dubai and Singapore for expanding the presence of ZOOP.
So far they have completed over 150 projects and are achieving 80% growth year on year. Chatoo is another product the team has been working on. It is a context based communication platform. For example, people in the same neighborhood can contact and talk to each other, orat an event you can strike up a conversation with someone who has interest in appslike you.
The future of Augmented Reality based startups seems to be shining bright as the market is still ripe in the field and the startups which have started into the field can be counted on the finger tips. Augmented Reality has become a great marketing tool, be it e-commerce or offline platforms.
